Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

Start Your RIDE

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is where all motorcycle adventures begin!

The CBT is a true taster of what motorcycling is all about, our CBT Course will give you all the basic riding skills you need, as well as tuition and support to ensure that you can head out on the roads confidently and safely.

CBT is a minimum days course, between 6-8 hours. You will need a provisional or a full car licence and anyone aged 16+ can do it! At 16 you can ride a 50cc bike or scooter, 17+ you are limited to a 125cc bike or scooter.

Having knowledge of the highway code and practicing balancing on a pedal bike before your CBT is a great start for you and your riding.

This is only training, there is plenty more to learn! You can continue training for your full licence or partake in more lessons and courses.

On the day, wear thick trousers such as leather or a heavy denim. A sturdy pair of boots or shoes which has some ankle support. Avoid trainers, plimsolls and steel-toed boots. In cold weather, thermals are a great idea to keep warmer whilst outdoors and ensure you have thick outer layers over the top. In hot weather consider lighter materials which still keeps you safe, such as Kevlar or leather. Included in your cost we do provide helmets, motorcycle jackets, high visibility vests and gloves.

Course layout.

All provisional and full car licence holders must undergo 5 stages of off-road and on-road training before being allowed on the road.

  • Beginning with an introduction, we'll discuss the CBT, motorcycling and different types of clothing, from boots to helmets. We will also do an eyesight test.

  • Have a look at the motorcycles controls, how they operate and how to maintain the motorcycle.

  • Off-road training. Sitting on the bike, finding our balance and showing control in setting off, going in a straight line and stopping the motorcycle. Then progressing to small manoeuvres such as ‘U’ turns and the slalom.

  • On-road training. We’ll discuss what we will encounter on the road and how to manage different scenarios.

  • Lastly, ensuring all our team is comfortable and confident, we’ll head out on the road for at least a 2 hour fun-filled ride, guided by one of our great instructors through radio contact.

Rider Requirements.

We make learning to ride as simple and easy as possible but we do need a few things from the rider as minimum requirements.
